Reschedule on data

rlwoell May 28, 2015 06:27 PM

I am using LoggerNet to collect data from a remote CR9000X. The logger has a number of CR9052 cards which are high power consuming devices. It is mounted on a vehicle and wakes up when the engine is started and is programmed it to shut down in a controlled manner after the engine stops. This is done to avoid discharging the vehicle's batteries.

My problem is that if the logger is called to download data, it wakes up in a high power consuming mode. Extended phone call could discharge the battery if the engine is off.

I have tried running a dummy program which doesn't call the CR9052 cards during data download. It was thought that this would reduce the current draw but that approach didn't seem to work.

An alternative would be to call the logger based on a schedule but if the engine isn't running to recharge the batteries, cancel the call and reschedule for a later time.

On the LoggerNet set up screen there is a checkbox next to "Reschedule On Data" but I couldn't find any help or description of how to use it.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to approach this problem.

The "Reschedule on Data" setting was created to help in situations where the datalogger is sending one-way data (not possible for the CR9000(x)). Its purpose is to shift the collect schedule base date/time by the collection interval when records are collected from the datalogger. In situations such as having a CR1000 send one-way data, this would allow the collect schedule to advance without having to actually poll unless we went the collection interval without receiving data. This doesn't sound like it would have any effect on your situation.

If you know a schedule when the vehicle is going to be turned on, it may be possible to use tasks with calendar based scheduling to trigger polls during those windows.

This blog post explains more about calendar-based scheduling that jtrauntvein mentions above:
