Overview
The HMP50 measures both temperature and relative humidity and is suitable for long-term, unattended monitoring. The humidity component features a field-replaceable chip, which eliminates downtime typically required for the recalibration process. The HMP50 is compatible with all Campbell Scientific data loggers.
Technical Description
The HMP50 measures temperature with a 1000 Ohm platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) and relative humidity (RH) with a 50Y Intercap capacitive chip. The chip is field-replaceable, which eliminates the downtime typically required for the recalibration process. This temperature and RH sensor is compatible with all Campbell Scientific data loggers.
The HMP50 should be housed in a solar radiation shield—typically the 41303-5A. The 41303-5A 6-plate naturally aspirated shield attaches to a mast, crossarm, or tower leg.

Other Accessories
(6)41303-5A
6-Plate Solar Radiation Shield
The 41303-5A provides a six-plate naturally-aspirated radiation shield that houses one HMP50 probe. Its louvered construction allows air to pass freely through the shield thereby keeping the probe at or near ambient temperature. The 41303-5A attaches to a crossarm, mast, or user-supplied pipe with a 1.0" to 2.1" OD.

10-Plate Solar Radiation Shield
The 41003-5 10-plate radiation shield can be used instead of the 41303-5A six-plate shield, but additional hardware is required (see below).
Orderable41322
10-Plate Shield Adapter for Use with 107, 108, 109, or HMP60
The 41322 adapter plate is used to mount an HMP50 probe in the lower part of a 41003-5 10-plate radiation shield.
Orderable6637
Hex Adapter Plug
The 6637 Hex Adapter Plug can be used to install the HygroVue™10 Digital Temperature and Relative Humidity Sensor in the R. M. Young 41003-5 10-plate or 41005-5 14-plate solar radiation shield. It can also be used with the 41381 extension tube to mount a HMP60, HMP50, or CS500 temperature and relative humidity probe in the higher part of the 41003-5 or UT12VA solar radiation shield.
OrderableRAD06
6-Plate Solar Radiation Shield
When exposed to sunlight, the HMP50-L must be housed in a radiation shield. The RAD06 uses a double-louvered design that offers improved sensor protection from driving rain, snow, and insect intrusion. It also has lower self-heating in bright sunlight combined with higher temperatures (> 24°C (~75°F)) and low wind speeds (< 2m/s (~4.5 mph)), providing a better measurement.
OrderableRAD10
10-Plate Solar Radiation Shield for Small Sensors
When exposed to sunlight, the HMP50-L must be housed in a radiation shield. The RAD10 uses a double-louvered design that offers improved sensor protection from driving rain, snow, and insect intrusion. It also has lower self-heating in bright sunlight combined with higher temperatures (> 24°C (~75°F)) and low wind speeds (< 2m/s (~4.5 mph)), providing a better measurement.

Compatibility
Mounting
The HMP50 is typically housed in a 41303-5A 6-plate naturally aspirated shield.
It may also be housed in a 41003-5 10-plate shield if additional hardware is used. A 41322 Adapter Plate allows the HMP50 to be mounted in the lower part of the 41003-5 10-plate shield. Alternatively, a 41381 extension tube and the 6637 split nut plug can be used to mount the HMP50 in a higher part of the 41003-5; the #41381 cable is also required.
Both the 41303-5A and the 41003-5 attach to a crossarm, mast, or user-supplied pipe with a 1.0-in. to 2.1-in. outer diameter.
