Overview
The RS485CBL cable uses a five-conductor shielded cable with an M12 five-pin A-coded connector. The cable has a UV-resistant, polyurethane jacket. The RS485CBL has been custom designed for sensors that use the RS-485 Modbus protocol with integrated power and signal lines. The signal lines have twisted pairs with 24-gauge conductors, and the power lines have a heavier 20-gauge wire, making the cable uniquely suitable for sensors with a higher current draw that have either short or long runs. An aluminum Mylar shield is grounded via a drain wire and connected to the M12 nut.
Technical Description
Wire Color Assignments and RS-485 Function Assignments
| Pin # | Wire Color | AWG | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Red | 20 | Sensor Power + |
| 2 | White | 24 | RS-485 B+ |
| 3 | Green | 24 | RS-485 Ground |
| 4 | Black | 20 | Sensor Power Ground |
| 5 | Blue | 24 | RS-485 A- |
Note:
- Pin 2 and Pin 5 use the twisted pair white and blue for the RS-485 line + and - signals.
- The twisted pair conductors have an aluminum Mylar shield connected to a drain wire. The drain wire is connected to the M12 nut.

Common Accessories
(7)44338
RS485CBL Adapter for SunSentry Used with Digital EKO Pyranometer
The 44338 adapter enables a single trunk-line cable to connect an array-mounted digital EKO pyranometer to the SunSentry Solar Operational Meteorological Monitoring Station. The adapter remaps the pin assignments between the two interfaces so the pyranometer is fully compatible with the RS485CBL 24 AWG RS-485 Cable with M12 Five-Pin Connector in a daisy chain with other sensors. The 44338 routes the cable shield through the connector's coupling nut, improving surge protection and reducing signal noise for more reliable operation.
Orderable44339
RS485CBL Adapter for SunSentry Used with Atonometrics Sensor (RC22 PV Reference Cell)
The 44339 adapter enables you to integrate an Atonometrics sensor—such as the RC22 PV Reference Cell—into a daisy-chain configuration on a SunSentry Solar Operational Meteorological Monitoring Station. The adapter allows the sensor to connect to the SunSentry system using a single trunk-line cable by remapping the pin assignments to match the RS485CBL 24 AWG RS-485 Cable with M12 Five-Pin Connector. The 44339 also routes the cable shield through the connector's coupling nut, improving surge protection and reducing signal noise for more reliable operation.
Orderable44340
RS485CBL Adapter for SunSentry Used with CS241DM G2 Temperature Sensor
The 44340 adapter allows a CS241DM G2 temperature sensor to be a direct replacement for the CS241DM temperature sensor. The pin assignments changed in the CS241DM G2 version, so the 44340 adapter converts the new pin assignment to the older version pin assignment, enabling the CS241DM G2 to use the same cable as the CS241DM.
Note: Do not use the 44340 adapter when installing the CS241DM G2 temperature sensor with the RS485CBL 24 AWG RS-485 Cable with M12 Five-Pin Connector.Orderable44370
RS485CBL M12 Five-Pin Shielded Tee Coupler for Daisy-Chaining
The 44370 tee coupler is used to wire split standard five-pin A-coded connections. It is commonly used to daisy-chain multiple digital Modbus sensors, such as the CS241DM and CS241DM G2 back-of-module temperature sensors, enabling multiple sensor connections on a single trunk-line cable.
Orderable44489
RS485CBL Adapter for SMP10 or SMP12 Used with RS485CBL, ISP10, or SunSentry
The 44489 adapter enables you to integrate a Kipp and Zonen sensor—such as the SMP10 Radiation Sensor with Digital RS-485 Output or SMP12—into a daisy-chain configuration on a SunSentry Solar Operational Meteorological Monitoring Station. The adapter allows the sensor to connect to the SunSentry system using a single trunk-line cable by remapping the pin assignments to match the RS485CBL 24 AWG RS-485 Cable with M12 Five-Pin Connector. The 44489 also routes the cable shield through the connector’s coupling nut, improving surge protection and reducing signal noise for more reliable operation.
OrderableISP10
Inline Surge Protection Device for Digital Sensors with A-Coded, Five-Pin M12 Connector
The ISP10 is a surge protection device for Modbus RTU sensors. The ISP10 provides protection that meets the IEC 61000-4-5, level 4 (4 kV, 2000 A) surge protection standard. It incorporates a T-junction that allows a sensor to be connected inline. The five-pin M12 connectors are configured to match the SunSentry system's trunk-line cable pinout, which is compatible with the RS485CBL 24 AWG RS-485 Cable with M12 Five-Pin Connector.
Orderable44732
RS485CBL Adapter for SunSentry Used with Lufft All-In-One
The 44732 is an accessory adapter cable designed so you can connect a Lufft all-in-one sensor that has an eight-pin M12 connector to the RS485CBL 24 AWG RS-485 Cable with M12 Five-Pin Connector through a five-pin M12 connection. This adapter cable provides a simple, factory-built interface to integrate compatible Lufft sensors with SunSentry systems. The 44732 features overmolded M12 connectors with a printed identification label.
